Delvaux Chocolates was started in 1985, as part of Rombouts Coffee.
Originally we imported pralines from a fantastic Belgian Chocolatier called Thierry Collet and his company Bruyerre Chocolatiere. We repackaged them and sold them to chocolate shops throughout the UK, notably the House of Fraser food halls.
In 1990 on a trip to Bruyerre in Belgium, I stopped for lunch with my mother-in-law , Mrs Monique Rombouts-Howitt. After a delicious meal and a bottle of Chablis, we were served with personalised after dinner chocolates.
Each chocolate was individaully wrapped and printed with the restaurants name and telephone number. We thought "what a great idea! " And the rest as they say is history ...We started our own production in April 1991and have been making personalised after dinner chocolates ever since.
Sadly in late 1991 Thierry Collet was killed in a car crash while on his way to open his first chocolate shop in the town of Namur, Belgium. Bruyerre is still producing Belgian pralines today and is still considered to be one of the highest quality pralines in the market.
I still have fond memories of my trips to Bruyerre and lunch with Thierry Collet. We both shared a passion for fast cars and fantastic chocolates .
We bought pralines from Bruyerre for a number of years after 1991 but now concentrate on the chocolates we make ourselves.
